Thank you to all the locals who looked after our crew after an unscheduled landing in the Lake District this afternoon. The aircraft has now been recovered safely after our engineers were flown in to fix the fault in the field.

Our first crews are now nicely settled in, and we're proud to be playing a part of Op NEWCOMBE. Most of our Squadron will deploy to Mali at some point this year.

A commemorative plaque was unveiled in Southampton today during a ceremony to honour Wg Cdr Nicholson VC, DFC, who commanded 27 Sqn during WW2. The only pilot in Fighter Command to be awarded a VC, he was just 23 when he took down an enemy plane, despite having already been shot.

Tonight sees the first deployment of 27 Sqn aircrew to Op NEWCOMBE in Mali, as we prepare to take over the @RoyalAirForce Chinook commitment from 18(B) Sqn in the coming days. Our engineers are already in theatre and ready to get cracking. Have a safe and successful deployment!
