For any comedian that is angry about “PC culture,” Desus and Mero are setting an example for y’all.

This is so simple, idk what’s so hard to understand

  • Also here is the full interview, it’s worth a watch, the story about going to the VMAs and Mero tryna fight Kanye’s bodyguard is hysterical

  • Getting a ton of replies that D&M “aren’t Carlin or Chapelle or Pryor” I think anybody saying that needs to re-examine what made those people great, because it isn’t just because “they were offensive and got away with it”

I understand where they’re coming from but again, there’s no asterix in any of these definitions that say “well not this topic anymore b/c XYZ”

Nope lmao this is still u thinking everything is black & white. Jus cuz it ain’t in the definition doesn’t mean society can’t have a different set of rules regarding the matter

Lol I believe in a healthy balance. Some things have to be in B&W like cases like this. But play from 0.52 he says “you can say what you want you just have to be funny about it” comedy is subjective. So they just contradicted themselves. Which is why society can’t make new rules

They meant you can talk about controversial/offensive topics as long as you approach them in smart ways.

We’re stepping into the same territory, because what you consider the “smart” way others won’t, some people don’t think you should make jokes on certain topics AT ALL. And everybody has a list. Rape, Abuse, Racism Homophobia etc. to certain people the “smart” way doesn’t matter

well the "PC police" is not a hive mind is another thing that people don't understand. Thats why I don't even like calling people "PC" because its too vague a term. Like, Jarrod Carmichael's last special jokes about rape allegations and I think its hilarious

I love how Desus & Mero explain that as they've met more ppl, they've seen how certain things they hit different ppl in different ways. Instead of complaining "we're not allowed to say that anymore."

See that's the rub tho- D&M are willing to meet people and hear them. A lot of comedians arent & spin their sets to make them benevolent

Like i understand where they're coming from but as time goes on people are getting way more sensitive to the point where their jokes are gonna have to get far more creative because if they think this is the height of this then oh boy

Like I understand where you're coming from but the only consequence you listed was that jokes have to get way more creative, and that sounds like a good thing?

bc it is very important that people are able to make a living off of jokes that were written decades ago... for some reason

They kinda backtrack with that statement, They say they dont do certain jokes anymore yet also say you can say whateve you want as long its funy, in that set offensive can still be funny. they can change but no need for everyone 2 change. some Like that style of comedy.

Agreed. I guess the issue that follows would be the crowd that consumes the act. Lately comedians have been hammered by jokes in the past. I still believe that Offensive and rude can still be funy, its the people who claim "It can't" I find an issue with, cuz they snuff variety.
