i.e. Being sexually attracted to someone is not the same as desiring sex. Asexuality is the lack of sexual attraction. It's not necessarily the lack of sexual desire. That's important to note.

If you would like more information, I highly recommend following @asexualjournal. They often have articles on the ace experience from many perspectives.

Attraction should not be conflated with desire. How we experience attraction is not necessarily how we experience desire. Attraction is relative to another person (outward-directed) while desire is relative to the personal (inward-directed).

Also: behavior (e.g. sleeping with someone) is not necessarily indicative of either attraction or desire. And: sometimes, it is. ๐Ÿ™‚ #demi

All of a sudden this makes so much sense!

aesthetic attraction: attraction to another person's physical appearance (i.e. appreciating or being captivated by). sometimes likened to appreciating beauty in nature, a painting, etc. aesthetic attraction does not have to be related to sexual, romantic, or sensual attraction.

As someone who experiences this, I agree with this definition of it. I consider all types of attraction independent rather than being linked to each other. Especially since I donโ€™t experience sexual attraction whatsoever. I do experience romantic, which I see as coincidental.

Non-aces should think of asexuality as the lack of sexual attraction, not the lack of sexual desire (or anything sexual in general). Asexuality foundationally deals with the subject of attraction.

And people need to understand that while (sexual) attraction and desire may conflate for them and a lot of people, fundamentally, they are two separate things and it's very possible to experience one without the other neither do you need one to experience the other.
