A thought provoking, sobering day in #Auschwitz. A stark warning that antisemitic, hateful ideologies led to this human catastrophe with unknown loss of lives. Everyone should visit, maybe the world would be a kinder place.

If you visited @AuschwitzMuseum, after saying a prayer, lighting a candle, leaving a flower or a stone, think also about this: "What can I do to make this world a better place". We should all search in ourselves the moral responsibly to act and do something good for others.

Professional footballers in England and Wales @PFA took a stand against racism.

We should all take a stand.

React actively when you become a bystander of hateful ideologies, prejudices, xenophobia, racism or antisemitism.

Here are a few photos from my visit to the @AuschwitzMuseum a few years back. It was an unforgettable and chilling experience, it’s difficult to comprehend what happened there. I’d strongly recommend anybody who gets the chance to visit this place, it is eye opening. #WWII

When we look at #Auschwitz we see the end of the process. It's important to remember that the #Holocaust did not start from gas chambers. This hatred slowly developed from words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanisation & violence. It is a powerful warning.

"The dream of my life has risen to become fact. Self-defense in the ghetto will have been a reality. Jewish armed resistance & revenge are facts. I've been a witness to the magnificent, heroic fighting of Jewish men in battle." (Mordechai Anielewicz, Warsaw Ghetto, 23 Apr 1943)

In the spring of 1945, Walter Gantz helped rescue about 2,500 prisoners aboard the train from Bergen-Belsen. The prisoners had departed the concentration camp six days earlier bound for Auschwitz. Judah Samet, 81, was aboard one of those train cars. https://www.stripes.com/news/veterans/wwii-medic-meets-survivor-he-helped-rescue-from-a-train-to-auschwitz-1.577484 …

.@starsandstripes Thank for publishing a this moving story. However there is one serious factual mistake there. The train from Bergen-Belsen could not have been sent to Auschwitz as in April 1945 the Auschwitz camp did not exist any more. It had been liberated on 27 January 1945.

19 April 1944 | Polish prisoner Michał Liszka (camp no. 85114, in #Auschwitz from 30 December 1942) was beaten by SS-Sturmmann Stefan Baretzki and died from a kidney injury. The reason of the beating was a poor greeting.

Powodem pobicia był zły ukłon.
