This introduced so many to Lyra McKee. "The Ceasefire Babies was what they called us. We were the Good Friday Agreement generation, destined to never witness the horrors of war but to reap the spoils of peace. The spoils just never seemed to reach us"

WATCH: UL Lecturer Dr Ann Marcus-Quinn @A_MQ, talks to RTÉ news about international research showing that deep learning from texts may be compromised by a shift to reading texts on tablets. #ThinkBigAtUL

Sorry, on ne comprend pas. My piece for Chatham House. Has UK's lack of ability and interest in foreign languages fuelled political misunderstanding...and Brexit? Personal view, of course. https://www.chathamhouse.org/publications/twt/sorry-ne-comprend-pas … via @TheWorldToday

My colleague @EULondonMark hammering lots of nails on heads here, also quoting @TeresaTinsley. The key imbalance is that today, for speakers of other languages, knowing English is not learning a language but acquiring a basic skill, perhaps an even more important one than maths.

« ...pour ceux qui savent que Quasimodo a existé, Notre-Dame est aujourd'hui déserte, inanimée, morte. On sent qu'il y a quelque chose de disparu. Ce corps immense est vide ; c'est un squelette ; l'esprit l'a quitté, on en voit la place, voilà tout ». Victor Hugo

Une bonne nouvelle : toutes les œuvres d’art ont été sauvées. Le trésor de la cathédrale est intact, la couronne d’épines, les saints sacrements. #NOTRE_DAME

#LanguagExplorers won last year's European Language Label Award (ELLA) with their language awareness programme. Celebrate your classroom's linguistic diversity and apply for ELLA 2019. @PDST_MFL @LangTeachersIre Yours too could be an award-winning project! http://bit.ly/2O5ctRw

Meet the candidates! ⁦@SorchaPollak⁩ has spoken w/ 29 non-locals running in #LE19- a far cry from full representation but when you see the talent, insights & wisdom on display it’s a very strong start. & don’t forget to #GoVote!

Interesting thread on how Modern Languages are tackling challenges to the discipline at University level, by renewing and enriching module offers, developing transnational perspectives and offering ab initio programmes

Speaking a foreign language "expands our understanding of humanity" and by using even the few words we know, we pay respect and in turn become welcomed and respected by others. These are just some of the many take-aways from today's panel discussion.
