Google's Open Source Peer Bonus award pushes forward Blosc2, the new generation of Blosc. And: Blosc has received a logo (yeah, finally! 😀). http://blosc.org/posts/prize-push-Blosc2/ … . Enjoy data!

Oh wow, 'el risitas' planning for a new data product. So good! 🤣🤣🤣

Since @pchirik showed this @NatGeo video at a conference, I could not stop thinking about it. Something we all (especillay chemists) should be very concerned about...

ANN: C-Blosc 1.16.2 is out! https://github.com/Blosc/c-blosc/releases … This is the second iteration in ironing-out the numerous safety improvements that appeared in 1.16.0. Thanks to those who promptly reported issues and let's hope that most of the major concerns have been addressed. Enjoy data!

Intel is doing a good job on optimizing LZ4 on its IPP library (Integrated Performance Primitives). See how much it can do for accelerating LZ4 during Blosc decompression at: #issuecomment-459317874" target="_blank">https://github.com/Blosc/c-blosc/pull/258#issuecomment-459317874 … . Up to 2x for single-threaded and lowest compression level sounds *really* cool.

New roadmap for C-Blosc2, the next generation of the well-kown Blosc compressor: https://github.com/Blosc/c-blosc2/blob/master/ROADMAP.md … As you can see, our expectations are high, and a lot of work has been done already. Now we need to focus on making the beast production ready. Would you like to help? #blosc

The Blosc project has received a new governance docs as well as a new steering council. This should provide more long-term stability for the stated goals. Check the details at: https://github.com/Blosc/governance … . Enjoy data! #blosc #compression

[ANN] libfuzzer checks show that the brand new C-Blosc 1.16.0 has got much more safety for untrusted/possibly corrupted inputs. Thanks to Jeremy Maitin-Shepard for his outstanding work on making Blosc safer and more stable. More info at: https://github.com/Blosc/c-blosc/releases … . Enjoy data!

Writing safer C code : let's transfer some tests at compile time : https://fastcompression.blogspot.com/2019/01/compile-time-tests.html …

Starting writing a mini-article on multi-dimensional array views for systems programmers:

I wrote some review/notes on the Designing Data-Intensive Applications book by @martinkl: https://forvillelser.vorce.se/posts/2018-12-30-on-designing-data-intensive-applications.html … TL;DR I like it a lot.

A mi al principio me chocaba la voz de contratenor, hasta que escuché a Alfred Deller con la cantata BWM 170 de Bach o las arias de Jefté y Teodora y Orlando de Haendel. Ahora la sensación de paz que me transmite es indescriptible. #SDLM

I had the opportunity to test the latest incarnations of ARM CPUs for both the client and server market. I recollected my experiences in this new blog: http://blosc.org/posts/arm-memory-walls-followup/ … TL;DR it is not longer guaranted that Intel would be the only option for serious computing. Enjoy data!

A pro-inflammatory diet including fast food, processed food, and refined sugar is associated with a 40% increased risk of depression according to a meta-analysis of 11 studies.

Now that people have already said highly controversial stuff like ”debugger is useless for C++ development”, I think I can share my own controversial thoughts about unit testing, DRY, copy-paste coding and function length, etc... with 20 years of C++ programming experience.

The question now is whether machine learning can help humans discover truths about the great unsolved problems of science and medicine, such as cancer and consciousness; the riddles of the immune system, the mysteries of the genome.

Double release: python-blosc v1.7.0 (https://github.com/Blosc/python-blosc/blob/master/ANNOUNCE.rst …) and bloscpack v0.16.0 (https://github.com/Blosc/bloscpack/blob/master/ANNOUNCE.rst …) available now from the usual outlets. Enjoy Data!

Nunca pensé decir en algún post que alguna de mis imágenes tardó 365 días para realizarla, hoy es el caso.

How Facebook deploys advanced features of Zstandard to improve infrastructure efficiency : https://code.fb.com/core-data/zstandard/ …

Very well written article by Yann Collet and his team at Facebook. Besides the more or less known awesome features of zstd, I really enjoyed the section about Managed Compression; it uncovers a totally new approach on how compression can save resources (and big money) in Big Data
