Last Night, In Basketball (6-6-18) https://mailchi.mp/ab9f91086633/last-night-in-basketball-6-6-18 …
Hi there. Quick announcement. Some of you might remember my video breakdown series Last Night, In Basketball that I worked on during last year's playoffs. (Example below.) This season, I'm bringing it back for the whole year.
I think it's advisable to care exactly as much about the Warriors losing this random mid-March Saturday night game to the Mavericks as the Warriors themselves apparently do.
A fun experiment is imagining the New York Post and Daily News headlines for all the various Kyrie controversies this season. Without question, one of those papers would have gone with SHUT YOUR TRAP in response to this.
Florida State is the only sports team that I legitimately hate. You cannot convince me there is anything good about anything from Tallahassee.
Come on Ja. Beat Florida State.
Wofford ran their "Special" set for Fletcher Magee
This is beautiful action. Need to see the Sixers break this out for Redick.
Take it sleazy.
In other words I would just please like people to stop pretending this is a no-contest race in either candidate's favor. Please.
Harden’s per game averages since 12/22 (when CP missed his first of 17 straight): 39.2 points, 7.0 rebounds, 7.2 assists and 2.2 steals. These numbers don’t include tonight’s 61-point bomb against the league’s hottest team. Houston also has NBA’s 2nd best record over that stretch
This stretch has been unlike anything I've seen in quite some time. It also cuts off almost 40% of the season. (Thru 12/21) Oh, and: Giannis is going for 28 pts 13 reb 6 ast 1.5 stl 1.5 blk and shooting 57% from the field while playing only 32 MPG over that exact same stretch.
Patrick Beverley with a candid quote about teams — including the Cavs tonight — going zone against the Clippers recently.
The pervasive attitude that zone is somehow cowardly or unmanly is (IMO) a big part of the reason NBA teams rarely play it. Zone's made a comeback this year, though, and like the Clippers, most teams are struggling to solve it. Wrote about this recently: https://fansided.com/2019/03/05/nba-zone-defense-heat-nets/ …
I'm not even camouflaging it all that well so I'll just say I think the way ardent Harden-backers/Rox fans talk about MVP is wildly annoying. And I "voted" for him in 2017 and 2018 anyway. Don't know who I'll "vote" for this year yet but they're still incredibly annoying about it
"[Player X] won MVP bc [Reason Y] in [Year A] and now [Player Z] is doing [Reason Y] so he is [Year B] MVP" only works if you assume literally everything else in Year A/B happened exactly the same way. But that's not how things work. Esp bc [Reason Y] is prob not the whole story.
No, so much about what voters care about has changed year to year
Yeah. It's almost like the performance of almost every team and player have changed and those changes inform what things voters value (and how much) and what choices they make.
I also think people should be banned from referencing what supposedly determined the MVP race in a prior year and using that to lock people into their preferred choice in the current year. 2019 is not 2018 or 2017 or 2015. So much about teams, players, performances has changed.
Too many people like to say that certain things should be factors in the MVP race when what they really mean is that they should be determinative in the MVP race (and thus you should agree with their preferred choice), and they are wrong on that latter point.
I'm sorry Harden has what now
Last Night, In Basketball (3-20-19) Pascal Siakam's ridiculous speed in the open floor led to a dominant performance against the Thunder: 33 points, 13 rebounds, 6 assists. Siakam flew up the floor off makes, misses, and steals and was pretty much unstoppable in the open floor.
Siakam proving to be a problem on the break for OKC again.
This will shock people but I think if Danny Green is left open from 3, he will hit the 3.
My opinion on RJ Barrett will vary wildly depending on what RJ stands for. (Don't tell me what it stands for.)
I feel like the crowd cheering on Mark McGwire in that Simpsons ep right now. I just wanna see some dingers (Zion dunks).
Wait till she realizes she’s talking about the Indiana Parks and Recreation Association’s 2018 Elected Official of the Year... https://twitter.com/variety/status/1108922354170626049 …
