About 50% of black children in the U.S. are in households in the bottom fifth of the income distribution, compared to 10% of white kids. Blacks who are born poor are more likely (than other races, esp whites) to remain poor v @RichardvReeves @BrookingsInst http://brook.gs/2HRTdmn

I’m reading Michael Fuller’s memoir "Kill The Black One First" (@BlinkPublishing). I’ve read many books, but this is in its own league. Then last night guess who was on @BBCHARDtalk with Mr. @stephensackur? Mr. Fuller himself –UK’s First Black Chief Constable! Much #Respect Chief

So we're all clear about it: "Schooling, especially post-secondary schooling, and cognitive skills are important for increasing earnings for both men and women, but they are especially important for women." https://www.brookings.edu/blog/education-plus-development/2019/03/18/schooling-and-skills-reduce-gender-wage-gaps-but-not-completely/ … @dilenigun @AlexValerio1 @BrookingsInst #highered

"To narrate Black life is to engage in a critical, creative & political project of re-imagining. Black writers write to remove the curtains that cloak the windows to our interior lives." This hit me! "Racial wealth gap expands at higher levels of education. Black families where the head is a college grad have less wealth than white families where the head dropped out of high school. Rather than educ leading to wealth, it is wealth that [buys] expensive education"

There were about 40,000 Black people in Canada at the time of #Confederation in 1867. According to @StatCan_eng, Black population doubled over the past 20 years; There're more Black women than men; Blacks are younger than total Canadian population; More than half live in #Ontario

Looking back, I could have used some help from school admin to prioritize whats on my to-do list. Life can be overwhelming for beginning teachers. Admin could: have conversations with the novice teachers & clearly articulate what's most important—revisit this often! #saskedchat

Here is what hit me when I opened @MigunaMiguna's book #Treason: "Injustices consolidate, spread and institutionalise themselves because, often, honest men and women surrender to the machaninations and determinations of a few evil people." (p. 40)

6) This should be a huge concern given that 16.3% of #Saskatchewan's population self-identifies as Indigenous (Census Canada, 2016). Despite significant gains being made to enhance educational outcomes for #Indigenous students in #Saskatchewan, more needs to be done #saskedchat

1) Reconciliation, #Indigenization & Education in #Saskatchewan … what do the numbers say?
Though things are improving (and outcomes for #Métis are better than for First Nations), too many #Indigenous students leave school without a high school diploma & too few go to university
