Homeless, pregnant, and alone, I had to steal to eat. Mine is a tough story to tell, but it's not mine alone. I have encountered so many people who are just like me. We all struggle, we all face challenges, and we all need each other.
My faith tells me to speak up for the least of these. Really appreciated Senator Warren's discussion of faith here -- "I believe we are called on to act." https://www.cnn.com/politics/live-news/elizabeth-warren-town-hall-mississippi/h_78ee535265d107bff700bccaabd4975e … #WarrenTownHall
The @statesman published my op-ed explaining why Texas should pay for universal Pre-K! Thank you to Texas legislators like @GinaForAustin, @ChrisGTurner, and many more for advocating for this issue. https://www.statesman.com/article/20190318/OPINION/190318835?fbclid=IwAR1UZxSlFs2L0qLqU_BRmNw-fR40U0D_C_ym-G-MQkB0X88yIzR-8qSjiIg …
I'm with Shannon & Rep. Hinojosa here. Voters in San Antonio achieved universal pre-K with a *1/8th of a cent* increase in city sales tax in 2012. Investment turns into something much greater than what we put in & ensures more equitable education system for every Texan family.
After church: green shoes, sleepy dog, sunny morning.
If this administration won't, then federal and Texas law enforcement should present their plan to identify, disrupt and dismantle white nationalist terror networks, and hold the individuals and corporations who have enabled it accountable.
Daily reminder that we have a **Muslim Ban** in this country made out of the President’s hostility to Muslim people w/ little-to-no supporting evidence, and a Republican Party that tolerates it. There is so much work to do. Repealing the Ban is square 1.
This morning, the world learned that 49 Muslims were slaughtered and dozens more injured in a terrorist attack during Jumu’ah prayer. My heart grieves for the Muslim community. All of us must stand together to be the shield that protects our Muslim friends and family. 1/3
Heidi & I are horrified & outraged by the terrorist acts in Christchurch, which must be condemned in the strongest & most unequivocal terms. We stand in solidarity with the people of New Zealand & with the Muslim communities in Texas & around the world, during this painful time.
You called for a security crackdown in “Muslim neighborhoods” under the assumption that radicalization would occur otherwise, hoping that this stance would help you secure the GOP nomination in 2016, but sure go off about standing in solidarity w/ the Muslim community in Texas.
elected officials who've endorsed or tacitly supported the Muslim ban are offering empty condolences and denunciations of hate today and no one should let them get away with it
We don't back down in the face of Islamophobia and racism at home or abroad. We stand up, stand together and make it clear that terrorism won't be met with indifference but with action that honors our diversity as the people of the world. Thinking of our friends in New Zealand.
I just want people to remember Trump has said "Islam hates us," retweeted fake anti-Muslim videos by hate group Britain First, promoted a Muslim Ban, spread anti-semitic Soros conspiracy theories, demonized immigrants is & surrounded by people who believe it. There is a cost.
Heartbreaking news from Christchurch, New Zealand. Devastated as a mosque -- a place of worship and solace -- defiled by an act of racist terrorism. Praying for all affected.
This is a result of the constant fear-mongering and scapegoating Muslims, refugees and people of color. All it takes is one individual to be radicalized by these messages and to act out violently.
59 Senators voted for @JoaquinCastroTX's resolution to prevent the president from spending money he has no Constitutional authority to spend on a racist wall that Texas doesn't need or want. But not Senators Cruz & Cornyn. They abandoned Texas.
Just realized the college admissions bribery scandal money was routed through a fraudulent 501(c)(3) nonprofit foundation so wealthy parents got an IRS tax write-off under the guise of donating to a charity for “educational and self-enrichment programs to disadvantaged youth”
Really gets to the heart of what we know to be so wrong with America -- a system quite literally rigged for the wealthy and privileged and well-connected still able to buy access and outcomes, and get a tax cut for it.
“I support the Healthy Texas Act because everyone wins. There will be lower cost of care, better outcomes, and the 4.5 million people in Texas without healthcare coverage - they get it.” @JulieOliverTX #healthytexasact #txlege
Hope you'll join us at the capitol tomorrow, Wednesday March 13 to call upon our local & state representatives to support the Healthy Texas Act. Provides high quality, low cost healthcare for our families, our communities, our kids and future residents. See you at 9am!
Feminist powerhouse @wendydavis on the 🎤 this morning at @BlueSquadSocial's Technology in Politics event. She's sitting next to 2018 Congressional candidates @SriPKulkarni, @JulieOliverTX, and @JosephKopser. It's mind blowing how talented these people are. #bluetsunami2020
.@TedCruz and @JohnCornyn - I hope you guys will stand up for Texans by supporting my resolution terminating the President’s unconstitutional emergency declaration. This is a massive Washington DC land grab of Texans’ land.
If you support the troops, support private property rights, and support the founding fathers’ view of a need for co-equal branches of government, call your senators and ask if they do, too.
Our existing system is much more expensive, inefficient, and wasteful than a single-payer system. Doctors would not have to see a reduction in salary under a single-payer system. Love seeing Dr. Gabney calmly marshal the evidence here against common bad-faith arguments.
