„People go to their doctors who prescribe medication, which is an inadequate response,” he said. If instead governments took issues such as inequality, poverty and discrimination seriously “then you can expect improving mental health”. https://www.theguardian.com/society/2019/jun/24/austerity-and-inequality-fuelling-mental-illness-says-top-un-envoy?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other …
Austerity, inequality, desecration of the social safety net contract, political hopelessness. This is no time for mindfulness.
https://www.bna.org.uk/careers/neuroscience-career-faqs/ … For clarity, in case you are wondering if you 12 week NLP course qualifies you to use this term....
Courses/coaching ads where the facilitators "do neuroscience". Have you got a neuroscience MSc/PhD? Are you trained to analyse neuro-imaging & frequency of electrical brain signals? Will my brain be scanned? No? Then you do NOT "do neuroscience". Please stop, it's embarrassing.
"When working w/ MH, time spent listening, explaining, contextualising & reassuring is = to spending time organizing assistive tech for sensory impairment or access for mobility issues. It is a reasonable adjustment." @RBS @XeniaTaliotis @geniuswithinCIC
This is jaw dropping. A candidate for Prime Minister admits that no deal would wipe out 350 jobs in Kidderminster at a very successful company that has almost half of a European market. And he’d do it. https://twitter.com/beany_1/status/1142693235527180288 …
The phonics check is a bad test. It tells you more about which month the 5 year olds were born in, than their state of reading development. #TooMuchTesting @MoreThanScore @NEUnion Vote Yes in the National Education Union ballot on high stakes tests.
And exactly. This is why I took my kids out of school to avoid it. Protest the phonics check.
A male Tory MP attacking a peaceful female climate protestor on the eve of Boris Johnson being “voted” PM by a fucking gout ward of hedge fund managers with names like Geoffrey Covington-Plopp is a disgusting yet unsurprising snapshot of a sclerotic, dying party.
A "gout ward of hedge fund managers" is winning the internet today.
Some incredible words by @hminto in this incredible article > Turning over a new page: how #accessibility tech is changing https://www.theguardian.com/tech-that-empowers-everyone/2019/jun/21/turning-over-a-new-page-how-accessibility-tech-is-changing?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Tweet …
Great article @hminto
CBT is valuable in the right circumstances. But I agree, like SSRIs it gets used as a way for GPs to make you go away cos they don't want to deal with the actual problem. The fault is here, not in the treatment itself.
Agreed. Providing individual level solutions to structural and organizational level problems is gaslighting. @WildeJoanna says we should be talkinng about mental injury at work rather than stress. Even the DOCTORS have raised concerns. https://mh.bmj.com/content/41/1/40
I literally could not agree with this more. Mindfulness has solid roots in yoga and spiritual practice - that's where it should stay - not as a coercive strategy to pacify a population when there are so many things for us to get angry about. https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2019/jun/14/the-mindfulness-conspiracy-capitalist-spirituality …?
