Can I just say I love that there was a random 80s NBA player named "Devin Durrant"? It's like a bad pseudonym KD would check into a hotel under (complete with that extra "r")... and yet it is a real guy.

Playing in MLB is hard enough with nothing weighing on you. In 1947, Jackie Robinson faced maybe the worst psychological abuse of any athlete ever, day in & day out. He still hit .297 with an .810 OPS, won Rookie of the Year, 5th in MVP voting. Unbelievable mental strength.

(That's no dig at Kiké, one of my favorite players. But it remains amazing that you can look at the crazy hot 2-week start of a regular good player, and find Trout stats that beat it over an entire season.)

...Of course, this is the part where I remember that Mike Trout's WPCT-on-an-otherwise-average-team last year, over basically a full *season* (140 gms) .... was .556.

Kiké Hernández has been amazing this season -- hitting .349/.442/.721 with 0.9 rWAR already. @baseball_ref has a thing where they calculate an otherwise avg team's WPCT if you added that player. Kiké is at .555 (90-win pace per 162) thru 13 games this season...

How long is a generation if you want to say "once in a generation talent"? In other words, list out the "generationals" born between 1931 (Mays/Mantle) and 1991 (Trout). How many players did you list? Do the same between 1948 (Bobby Orr) and 1997 (McDavid). How many players? https://twitter.com/rayferrarotsn/status/1116036923531898880 …

I had this exact same thought regarding this sudden obsession with calling prospects "generational talents." You can't have "generational" prospects coming down the pipe every damn year.

.@baseball_ref refreshed its WAR for 2019 this morning. Oh look who is No. 1, what a surprise.

On this week's #HotTakedown from @FiveThirtyEight, I say "Antetokounmpo" as many times as humanly possible.

If you broke the "Devil Rays" and "Rays" into 2 different franchises, depending on when the team called itself what, the Rays would have the *3rd best* record of any franchise since 1901 and the Devil Rays would have the *worst* record of any franchise since 1901.

2019 Red Sox are 3rd on the list of worst post-World Series season-opening Elo rating declines 8 games into the schedule, behind the 1984 Orioles (who started their title defense 2-10) and the fire sale 1998 Marlins:

Transparency is a core value of @FiveThirtyEight, but we haven’t been consistent about showing you whether our predictions are any good. That changes today! Check out the receipts for all our forecasts since 2008:

Fave moment on this week’s #HotTakedown pod from @FiveThirtyEight: @gwfost refers to a fire sale from the Marlins, and @Neil_Paine and I both respond with, “You’re gonna have to be more specific.” 🤣

TIL that Michael Beasley had more Win Shares than Zion Williamson in the same # of games as a freshman:

Omg @MLBNetwork noticed this. Khrush hit a HR yesterday and the CLOCK STRUCK 2:47

This Khris Davis numerology is getting scary. First he hits exactly .247 four straight years (https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-most-consistent-hitter-in-baseball-history/ …), and now he is hitting home runs at exactly 2:47pm?!

You know WAR has truly arrived when a team PA announcer uses it in a player’s introduction on Opening Day (as the Nats just did for Anthony Rendon’s intro)
