We need to tell the truth about the ERA. It's unacceptable that opponents are distorting it.
In Virginia @RipSullivan48 has introduced an ERPO bill; we are pushing this federal solution to encourage states to pass them. To see if your state has an ERPO law (aka gun violence restraining order or "red flag" law) check this @teamtrace chart: 6/ https://www.thetrace.org/2018/03/red-flag-laws-pending-bills-tracker-nra/ …
One year ago today, 17 students and staff were murdered by a mass shooter in Parkland, Florida. This day will haunt us forever. May we never stop working to prevent senseless gun violence.
Jacobs Law passed the Senate Courts of Justice Committee this evening. Next stop: the full Senate.

Jacob's Bill is one step closer to becoming Jacob's Law - HB1979 passed the full House today in a bipartisan vote. On to the Senate. On for family equality.
Jacob's Law (or at least Jacob's Bill, for now), named for Jay Timmons' and Rick Olson's son Jacob, passed from second reading to third, meaning tomorrow the full House will vote on the bill. This is a great day for family equality in Virginia. On to Tuesday's vote.
The bill is named for Jacob, the little boy pictured below, who had to endure a long and difficult journey before his parents, Rick and Jay, could finally adopt him.
Today I will urge my colleagues in the House pass to its third reading (aka a final House vote) HB1979, or “Jacob’s Law,” which would streamline & update the surrogacy process for ALL Virginia families.
Back in Richmond for the last floor session before crossover, one of the busiest days in session. We're here to do the people's work.
I’m heartbroken. The legacy of bigotry, racism & discrimination runs too deep, has broken too many hearts & destroyed too many lives for us to be silent & overlook what the photo revealed. We can’t pick & choose when we stand against racism. The next step is clear. Step down.
I stand behind the House Democratic Caucus’s statement.

Two of my energy efficiency bills just reported unanimously out of the House Commerce and Labor Committee. A good step forward for consumers.
Glad to stand beside the @GovernorVA and Secretary of Transportation, Shannon Valentine, today as we announced four new projects to reduce congestion and improve connectivity on I-495 and I-95. #NoOneLikesTraffic
Presenting my bill HB1976. Virginia has a lot of catching up to do on reporting hate crimes committed on the basis of gender identity and sexual orientation, and this bill would be an important step forward.
I’m back in the @VaHouse today. It was my honor to speak on the floor and thank everyone for the amazing support we have received as we grieve the loss of our son. Our sincere thanks for your kindness.
John M. Langston Citizens Assoc. held a wonderful celebration of HHVFD Station 8’s Centennial this afternoon. It was a great look at the bravery and determination of Arlington County’s African-American firefighters past and present. https://bit.ly/2ogNUWl #history #community
