"Narratives of crime, violence, conflict and brutality dominate depictions of blackness and more worryingly these narratives are primarily for white consumption" https://blkbld.uk/2M3TzcW Is Black Theatre Too Focused On Black Pain? 📝 @_esmeallman

Tiffany Pollard judging critique leaked: “Those shoes are not something that I would particularly buy for myself. They’re old maiden type of shoes. You said these shoes are meant to be worn by a beautiful woman and if that’s the case, you should’ve put them back on the rack”
If studying Social Policy taught me anything it’s that citizenship, the nation state, borders etc. they’re all just constructs. None of these things *actually* exist. The same way they can be given to you, they can be taken away and that’s really that.

It was a privilege chatting with @seyiakiwowo @lolaolufemi_ @rianna_walcott for this. The facts are harrowing. The caution black womxn have to navigate the online world with is undeniable and unjust. Twitter is failing to recognise their platform as a breeding ground for abuse. https://twitter.com/blackballaduk/status/1095955787892047873 …
The facts are harrowing & we all have responsibility to take action - incl platforms. It's not paranoia or ultra-sensitivity, WOC are esp. targetted - as journalists (remember Guardian study) politicians (in the UK, the States see @WMCSpeechProj study) or just talking on twitter
Rah so turn around and die today for me then.

when i'm laughing at my own jokes again
Queer Black people are a gift to this universe

17: Rounding off this week celebrating folk who are no longer with us, with a reminder that we owe some of fiercest movements & radical praxis to Black trans people (such as Marsha P Johnson, below). Their freedom is everyone's freedom http://gal-dem.com/silence-failing-naomi-hersi/ … #LGBTHM19 #BHM

I love it when white people say it’s not always about race. Your an idiot because you have no idea what it’s like to be a black woman & the degrading & repetitive cycles we are stuck in thanks to racism. So your it’s “not always about race” is comical at best. ✌🏾
For me it’s incredibly telling, that whoever is talking (but usually white people), have not taken any of the steps to critically engage with your whiteness/ways you’ve been racialised
How much more do black women receive abuse online? In 2017, the year Theresa May lost seats in a snap election, MP Diane Abbott received OVER HALF of all abusive tweets aimed at women MPs
'tis black women who paved the way so yay always nice to be recognised by trailblazers
little gas moment for me but when people like @IamTobiOredein @JENDELLA @kelechnekoff champion and support the work you're doing it feels good. sometimes I forget to relish in these things.

No, black women aren’t being paranoid. Black women face 84% more abuse online than our white female counterparts https://blkbld.uk/2E9JSqX A Black Ballad Investigation: The Dark Side Of Social Media For Black Women 📝 @_esmeallman
The facts are the facts. @_esmeallman did a great job with this Black Ballad investigation.
Andrea Levy, chronicler of the Windrush generation, dies aged 62 > so saddened by this - wow, her books have been so important to me 😢
While social media has allowed us to create communities and platforms, social media has also made black women the most abused demographic of people using the internet. #fixtheglitch Words by @_esmeallman @BlackBalladUK
