The biggest problem facing the left in the media isn’t rightwing bias: its a complete lack of understanding of, or even curiousity about, the politics of movements.

What is your most on brand story from your childhood?

I found Charles Manson's prison address and wanted to write to him to ask for his autograph and my parents had to step in like, 'You can't write to Charles Manson, you're 10'

And since we’re talking about it: This is what an intersectional statement looks like https://twitter.com/rheabutcher/status/1097181931823783936 …

Okay, so real quick, I feel like I really need to explain intersectionality to white people because stuff like this, even though it's well meaning is getting on my nerves. It's really hard to see a black woman's work be misused over and over again by progressives/well meaning ppl

1. What does it mean to deprive someone of their citizenship? It is to cast them out of society and exile them, the strongest expression of opprobrium available to us. But it highly racialised because it can only be used against dual citizens.

Currently have a two-apples-a-day habit. Am I keeping two doctors away or just half a doctor, what’s the apple maths on this

5/10 On Racism: Prior to discussing this on live radio, I was asked by a producer (not 4 the first time) not to describe the paper or journalist as racist. I had no plans to. But I was also told not to refer to 'racist framing'. This is something very different, and very telling.

the best 'writing advice' since my MA has come via @tobylitt tbh, this essay / post is great but the whole site is full of great stuff. like it does the 'harsh truth' thing without fetishising harshness as a virtue in itself. v clear-eyed
