Consider this page 1 of my #manifesto nailed to the Planning Department's door. Read my op-ed "We Cannot Plan From Our Desks" in @APA_Planning's #PlanMag Oct 2018. Embedded Planning praxis means planning in the streets, not from your desk. #PlanningMonth https://c1typlann3r.files.wordpress.com/2018/10/we-cannot-plan-from-our-desks_planning-magazine_viewpoint_october-2018_jpbell.pdf …
Today I’m at @1ELARA High School doing a guest talk on how I evolved from a teenage tagger & graffiti artist, to an architecture & political science undergrad, to a MAUP graduate of @UCLALuskin, to an embedded planner in South Central L.A., backed by public sector teachers & fam.

AMAZON CANCELS PLAN TO COME TO NEW YORK "After much thought and deliberation, we’ve decided not to move forward with our plans to build a headquarters for Amazon in Long Island City, Queens" - Amazon spokeswoman Jodi Seth
Congratulations to the people of New York on cancelling the massive Amazon gentrification plan. I ask for solidarity and support as the people of Northern Virginia fight for our own futures as well. ✊

The folks at @theLAndmagazine shared with me how they financed and published a 144-page print magazine in 6 months and *for free.* Their story gave me hope amid all these layoffs.
How former staffers of LA Weekly, who were fired by a new owner, regrouped to create a quarterly magazine for Los Angeles called The LAnd (@katiekilkenny7 / Hollywood Reporter) http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/how-brutal-la-weekly-takeover-produced-land-1185379 …
It's time for @LACountyCEO Sachi Hamai to get back to the table & bargain a FAIR CONTRACT NOW that values the professional work we do, & one that allows us to provide for our families. Tell CEO Hamai to bargain in good faith with @CAPEUnion! Thank you, #1u 3/
Our professional work bankrolls much of the @CountyofLA’s programs, special projects, & departments, including the @LACountyCEO’s Office. Last year, our Appraiser #1u members alone brought in a tax roll valued at $1.57 TRILLION! 2/
To the BOS: @HildaSolis @mridleythomas @SheilaKuehl @SupJaniceHahn @kathrynbarger. I’m a proud #1u member of @CAPEUnion representing Bargaining Unit 511. @LACountyCEO is treating CAPE members unfairly & NOT valuing the work we do on behalf of residents of the @CountyofLA. 1/

Out of the ashes of LA Weekly comes @theLAndmagazine and it’s everything you could want in an alt-publication. A city as weird as LA deserves a publication as weird as this. Go check it out.
About 100 of us, mostly former LA Weekly writers and @DSA_LosAngeles members, got together to map out what we wanted to do with this movement—beyond a boycott. We drafted a manifesto and split up into committees. We befriended people we'd previously only known by their bylines.
