40 people dying in a shooting in New Zealand is the population equivalent of 2,600 dying in a shooting in the US. That’s the scale of this in our country.

I was once a racist. I believed that western civilization was better and that Islam meant us harm. I was wrong. No Muslim has ever been anything but kind to me. I'm disgusted by today's events. My heart weeps for the Muslim community of this country.
Totally, but the flow-on affect needs to be considered too. It’s not only victims, but 49 families. Their extended families. Their friends. Their schools. Their workplaces. Their neighbours. Their sports teams. The hurt is going to impact a vast number of people in NZ
I feel ya - and that’s not the intention. Just awareness about the impact on our wee country where everyone is two degrees from everyone else. We need to realise how big this is, particularly for the Muslim community who WILL know people, and provide so much support. 🖤
Having lived in ChCh, there is a racist underbelly that far too many leafy green suburb dwellers live in denial about because they live in their isolated bubble detached from the rest of NZ thus never having to deal with that seedy underbelly that exists in so many parts of NZ.
