I'm Emeli Torsson (@emeli_torsson) a #PhDstudent in #veterinaryvirology. My PhD project focus on #PPR, the #measles of sheep and goats. The plan is to defend my thesis later this year and I hope to continue working with #morbilliviruses. Want to know more? https://www.slu.se/cv/emeli-torsson/ …

Today it’s my turn to tell you about myself! And show off how good I usually look when working in the cell lab 😉 🧫🧬🦠 #presentationround @SLU_Virology

I just need to tell the world! 🥳 After weeks of struggling with one #westernblot, finally got it to work. Then today I started working on a new one, with new antibodies, and tadaaa! It just worked! Instantly! It’s... it’s like magic! #phdlife #toomanyhoursinthelab

Showed my new #BSB t-shirt to my professor @SLU_Virology. A few minutes later we were deep in discussions about the start of #DNAsequencing and looking at his old gels! Very aesthetic stuff, but man that looks like a lot of hard work!!

Today we'll start a two week long series of tweets with presentations of all of us working here at the section of #virology @_SLU. Of course we'll start with our professor! If you have any questions, just ask!

Me and my colleagues have a new twitter account! The next couple of weeks we’re doing #presentations 👋 @SLU_Virology

Interesting talk on #foodsystems and #foodsafety by John McDermott @A4NH_CGIAR @IFPRI today @_SLU. Higher demand for perishable food worldwide = the risk of foodborne diseases increase. And, as always, involving women is part of the solution #womengettingtheworkdone

Hi twitter! today I want to experiment something new! Highlighting the work of women virologists. Thanks to the book "The foundations of virology" of Frederick A. Murphy I discovered a lot of female virologists I did not know about! so let's talk about #WomenInSTEM #virology

Today @malmberg_maja guided us thru an exercise to make us reach our #sciencegoals together in the best possible way and change our mind set on how to get there. We set our goal as a #nobleprize and therefore I've blurred our plan!! / @emeli_torsson, PhD student @_SLU

Complaining about my failed experiment to @Metaviromics yesterday. His response: “Science, as if life isn’t hard enough”. So true. I will now go on and question all my life choices until an experiment succeeds. Then I’ll be all “science is great!” again...

Finishing a PhD is like finishing a group project where your partner made a ton of mistakes at the beginning of the assignment. Except your partner is just you 4 years ago.

I’m trying to clean up those mistakes right now... It’s exhausting!

Okay, this Forbes article. Let's talk, Elyse. Because all your advice--that's how I started my career in science. Fear and doubt and caution are all things I accrued through my career, and your cheery "just lean in" aphorisms don't help. 1/ https://www.forbes.com/sites/womensmedia/2019/04/03/3-things-women-should-do-to-jump-over-obstacles-in-stem/amp/?__twitter_impression=true …

Read the entire tread. Then just change the world so this isn't a problem anymore. Should honestly have been done already. #WomenInScience

Getting our scientific twitter game evaluated by @GOrizaola at #SciCommUU19. There’s room for improvement for me at least!

There are around 2.2 million sheep and goats in the world. 1.7 million of these are at risk of PPR. Many depend on sheep and goats as an only source of food and income. That's why research into PPR and in the end, eradication of PPR is needed. #SciCommUU19 #EradicatePPR
