Russia escapes penalty despite missing Wada deadline. Report for @theipaper:

Breaking: Russia escapes penalty for missing deadline to turn over Moscow lab data; Rusada still code-compliant.

Ahead of crucial decision re Rusada tomorrow, IAAF has re-approved 42 Russian athletes to compete as neutrals.

NEW: Trump directed Michael Cohen to lie to Congress about a plan to build a Trump Tower in Moscow. w/@JasonLeopold …

Wada has announced they retrieved the data from Moscow lab. Decision re Rusada code-compliance due 22 Jan.

New: Wada announces its expert team will return to Moscow on Jan. 9 to try and retrieve lab data. If Russia complies, might avoid new ban.

Humiliated WADA president Reedie says he is “bitterly disappointed” that Russia missed deadline for lab data.

Possible ofc that Russia hands over Moscow lab data in January before next CRC meeting - and avoid a new ban.

Breaking: New twist in Russian doping saga. I understand that WADA now privately accepts that Russia will MISS its Dec 31st deadline for transfer of Moscow lab data - a strict condition of its controversial recompliance in September. No team in Moscow. Deadline will lapse

Also, nice to know my story about Russian gov. officials still being reluctant to cooperate w/ Wada was accurate.

Situation w/ Moscow lab data now so worrying that Rusada director Yuri Ganus has asked Putin to intervene.

Disquieting news from retrospective testing front as London 2012 now the Olympics w/ most (116) positive tests.

Russia's Anti-Doping Agency on verge of suspension again after Wada denied access to lab data

And hearing now that @Rusada had been left out of the loop re Moscow lab data, found out via the WADA press release.

Quoted @hugolowell

Have spoken to some Russian officials here in Moscow - real fear that lab data will not be given to Wada before deadline, leading to new suspension.

Consequences for Russia if Moscow lab data not be turned over by deadline are huge: not least tougher sanctions from a humiliated WADA.

This is quite the story. Allyson Felix was running about two secs slower in 400m - here’s the background.

Some stats re IAAF neutral status: 73 Russians were approved in 2018, w/ 68 applications denied. Six had their status revoked.

Russian athletes already with neutral status must re-apply for 2019, but process is simplified, the IAAF says.

Genuinely amazing how many people May's outlasting.

Oh wow it’s Geraint Thomas that wins BBC sports personality. Not sure what to make of Harry Kane coming in third either.
