As it's now confirmed with those that needed to know, I can say on here I'm leaving @UNiDAYS_Tech. I've learnt a lot, it's been fun, but it's time for a new adventure (after the notice period).
Thank you @startupstickers on the speedy turnaround for the little acts of rebellion sticker sheets. I'll be carrying these on me at meetups (when I remember) so if you are completing your little acts of rebellion to become a speaker, come tell me about them to get yours.
For @rizbizkits - because everyone needs gifs
I have no idea what's happening, what the rules are, or which chants I should be joining in on - but it's fun, chaotic and a little bit violent. Yay! Sports!
I am always happy to look over drafts of conference submissions, especially if you’re a first-time speaker. DM me, email me, whatever works for you - really happy to help out :) https://twitter.com/karolikl/status/1098315005286670336 …
Dylan is a friendly chap with a lot of experience in this gig. I'd take him up on this kind offer of his time.
Well over a year since I left @OakbrookFinance but I still love hanging with the crew 💙 They kindly extended an invite to see the @PanthersIHC play at @nottinghamarena. My first time watching ice hockey! Yay! Go Sports! 🐾🏒
but ... you're so pro, why you panic?
RT if you're a public speaker and you still panic
Hot tip: when submitting an abstract, keep in mind that a team who has spent the past 13hrs reading abstracts should be able to grasp the essence of your proposal after reading it max 2 times. If not, chances of rejection is very high. #ndcoslo
A thread by @karolikl on considerations while writing an abstract to submit to a conference. Currently they are part of the team selecting talks for #ndcoslo, so some points are more tilted towards that particular conference but, overall, very useful.
Quick reminder: @allmobro & I are at @digitallincoln on Monday with our talk 'How to talk really, really good' & chatting about @dddeastmidlands. Hope to see you there: https://www.meetup.com/digitallincoln/events/258272242/ …
Sadly, due to illness, we are having to re-schedule our appearance at @digitallincoln. Sorry to all those we are letting down this evening.
Visibility & action are powerful. Diversity & equity are important. I would do all I do, even if I didn't tick these boxes & I hope one day everyone will feel empowered to be in this industry. My boxes are part of me, but never the whole. I am a technologist, hear me roar.
I'm privileged by my confidence & it's great to help people just by doing what I enjoy, not only through content but also by representation. I speak to teach & to grow personally. I talk about my experience because it's what I know & I'm not afraid to be honest. 5/
I could write a blog on how each box affects my experience. The top one probably most of all as I'm very passionate about it. The box that is most important to me right now is "technologist". I would love it if all felt empowered to tick that box comfortably. 4/
I'm a Jess-in-a-box: ✅Non-typical background ✅Female ✅Has an invisible disability ✅Multi-ethnic. All these things have an effect on my experience. These all put me in a minority. There are other things (such as ageism) outside of my experience that need addressing 3/
We all know diversity is a wider issue than WiT. In our industry and in others. Age, colour, health, background - we need to become more diverse in all these aspects & more. Though I try to just be "Developer" I'm affected by a few of these boxes. 2/
If we want to empower women and gender minorities, especially of the next generation, we need to be visible - my latest blog post on #WomenInTech featuring some amazing and rebellious @wit_notts attendees inc. @JessPWhite, @rizbizkits & @anna_hax. http://bit.ly/2tjRLUH 📢🙍
Appreciate the shout out @LittleHelli. Though I agree that gender diversity is important (I wouldn't have started @WiT_Notts if this wasn't the case) & I'm glad being visible has some positive side effects - I feel there is more to be said 1/
If you'd like to donate sanitary products of any kind, please hand them in at reception @AccelerateNttm on Wollaton Street and we'll make sure they go to women who need them most. And if you'd like to join us on the 6th, it's for a great cause: all revenue goes to @nottswcentre

Go support a brave bunch who are taking on the challenge of learning how to code (& other necessary skills). Whether you can offer a cheer, or a future placement; @theSchoolOfCode's cohorts are a hard working & passionate lot that deserve support.
DevOpsDays London is looking for speakers, including 5 minute Ignite talks (with very unsubtle hints to those who've just give a 5 minute talk at @technottingham) https://www.devopsdays.org/events/2019-london/propose/ … #TechNott
This a greater honour than I deserve 🤟
