Replying to @deevybee

Also this massive study on screening in the Netherlands. Sensitivity and specificity low, despite authors' conclusions and no effect of intervention. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/15333268/ …

Quoted @SusanEbbels

"if you intervene with children who are likely to improve spontaneously, there will considerable waste of government’s and families’ resources.Does this mean we should give up on early intervention? No.But it does mean that we need to target such intervention much more carefully" https://twitter.com/deevybee/status/1141217237157761024 …

Absolutely agree. And we need to get real about level of support needed to make meaningful change.

Local authorities, schools and nurseries, health visiting teams - if you want to implement an intervention program, please check out the evidence base first. Don't waste loads of money on snake oil. Here's a brief guide to help http://www.thecommunicationtrust.org.uk/posts/2016/caroline-rowland/ …

see also http://deevybee.blogspot.com/2011/09/early-intervention-whats-not-to-like.html …. written in 2011, but nobody wants to hear the message

Couldn't resist going back and heard last question on legitimacy. No convincing answers. This is going to be a *massive* issue if future PM takes us to no deal - with no mandate from either Ref or GE. 3/

I mean, at least Stewart engages to some degree with practical realities, which - astonishingly - is now something to be grateful for. I'm seriously depressed, even though my expectations were really quite low. 2/2

Just can't bear to go on watching #BBCOurNextPM. 3 years on and those aspiring to lead the UK into its biggest economic and geo-political shift for decades come up with this embarrassing tosh. Stewart marginally better than the others, but only against a pitifully low bar 1/2

Great post @greg_ashman. So many people misunderstand the theoretical & epidemiological basis of screening. A 101 on sensitivity & specificity might be a good place to start: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sensitivity_and_specificity … Other non-political eg’s of childhood screening: newborn heal-prick & hearing

My son, who is 7: Are you working on yr book? Me: No, I am working on some email. Him: Do you not want your book to be published? Me: No, I do. Him: Then you should be working on your book.

Wow. Insight!!

Hi @IrvineWelsh @jonsnowC4 @JonathanPieNews @frankieboyle @Emmabarnett @davidschneider @mrjamesob @OwenJones84 @Femi_Sorry here’s a poster I made in celebration of some of Boris Johnson’s achievements. I’m at ad school and hoping to leave the world a bit better than I found it.

Have you seen this year's DLD Awareness Day logo? We try to mix it up each year to keep it fresh (along with our usual RADLD logo). You can access the logos on our website https://radld.org/dld-awareness-day/ …

How could you use these resources to raise awareness of #DevLangDis?

After nearly 6yrs as Gillespie Scientist in Residence & 2yrs leading the Science for Life partnership, I'm moving on to a new role! Which means there's a fab job going for someone who ❤️ science & children 👇 & I'll be there to support for the 1st term ☺️

A gentle reminder as @RoryStewartUK makes his pitch for compassionate, sensible Conservatism, that he voted against the Dubs Amendment, which offered safe haven to lone child refugees fleeing war in Syria.

All the people who think Jeremy Corbyn is a disgrace over Brexit despite whipping his MPs twice to back a second referendum and wanting a soft Brexit are swooning over Rory Stewart, who opposes a second referendum, wants a harder Brexit, and voted not to stop No Deal. 🤔🤔🤔
