Breaking: The RNC has filed suit against California to stop Gov. Gavin Newsom from mailing ballots to all registered voters ahead of the November general election. Lawsuit comes after Newsom announced the changes in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

In the middle of a pandemic, the Republican Party is suing a state for making it easier and safer to vote. This should tell you all you need to know about their stance on democracy.

Saw this on Facebook and felt profoundly attacked.

Nearly 100,000 lives have been lost, and tens of millions are out of work. Meanwhile, the president spent his day golfing.

NO @GavinNewsom This is not #Florida. I took this today an hour ago at #Venice #Beach and 98% of the people are not wearing masks including food workers. There are police everywhere and not one is in forcing anything. We paid $20 to park, saw this and left immediately.

Fattening the curve.

TV WRITERS: How many seasons into a series do you usually get before someone pitches the SLIDING DOORS Episode changing some major aspect of the pilot?

TV WRITERS: How many episodes into a series before someone pitches the FIGHT CLUB episode?

To staff or not to staff. A thread. There's been some talk in my feed today about aspiring TV writers who want to skip over staffing and go straight to selling their own shows. I am not sure who needs to hear this but i thought i would throw out some unsolicited advice: 1/

Thread. If you want to work in TV -- *especially* if you want to be the boss -- you need to know what the work looks like.

I love that Twitter tried to cancel Chris Evans today. You don't cancel Chris Evans. Chris Evans is Captain fucking America. If he wants, Chris Evans cancels Twitter.

Who else thinks @JoeBiden should pick a woman of color as his VP instead of (the admittedly smart and capable) @amyklobuchar?

@JoseMolinaTV Iโ€™ve seen so many showrunners say this. Mindy Kaling, Ava, etc. The conversation always comes back to showrunners wished they got more of them but agents warn that no one will read/hire from them.

Agents want their clients to write spec pilots that they can try to sell instead of a show spec that can only ever serve as a writing sample. We all want to see original material first, but a show spec is a great secondary sample.

Quoted @matthewfederman

Iโ€™ve finally figured out the tweet I want to use the Turn Off Replies function for: advising new writers to write specs of existing showsโ€”not to get hired, but to develop their craft. If you donโ€™t agree, feel free not to do it. Youโ€™re at the wheel of your own career.

There are more of us showrunners who agree with this than agents think.

Hey all you TV writers out there, what's the very first show you ever tried to spec?

Star Trek: The Next Generation.

This presumes that Drumpf is smart and has a plan, but... what if the push to reopen the economy is an intentional attempt to ensure a COVID resurgence in late fall in -- just time for the election? Combine that with his federal judges banning vote-by-mail... instant re-election.

California is issuing one-time food stamps with credits of up to $365 per child to help qualifying families get through the #coronavirus outbreak. The deadline to apply is June 30. Details on how to apply:
