These Arctic fires have been burning for over a month now. This thread takes a closer look at what might have caused these fires, what exactly is burning, & why we should be concerned... [🛰️images are from the same location in the Sakha Republic, Russia🇷🇺, 65–70°N]

As I’ve been trained by fab @guidedogs how to navigate using tactile pavement I thought I would share some key info in a thread! First, blister paving at road crossing points. The tactile round bumpy paving at pelican crossings is usually red & bumps are in horizontal rows.

Of the 334 residential blocks found to use highly flammable ACM cladding, 265 still have the panels on. Across the country, they are being taken down at a rate of just 4.5 blocks each month. Last month not a single residential block had the lethal panels removed.

Top Twitter Tip! As you can't get rid of the "trends" view on the website, set it to a language you don't understand. I'm never distracted by clickbait, because I don't read Japanese.

Another thought on design and research - design is always a balance, a compromise between various needs and context. So in research it's vital to try and quantify findings. Is it an issue that blocks people from achieving their task? A minor annoyance?

Over the next couple of months I'll be looking to hire more Interaction and Service Designers in multiple locations (applications mid-end August), but if you're a contract Service Designer around Sheffield/Leeds/Manchester, let's chat.

I think Settlers 2 might be the best management game, and a great way to learn about systems. On the one hand it's very detailed - you can literally follow a forester plant a tree which then grows, harvested and milled. On the other it's very accessible, cute, good interface.

SimCopter's graphics were so odd. Sort of a glitch aesthetic

Still seeing research and design that focuses on what people ask for or like, instead of really getting to the needs and designing for them.

🔥 Images on @Medium can now include proper alt text. 1. Highlight image 2. Click "Alt text" button 3. Add appropriate text alternative Not including alt text still renders images without the alt attribute. Not great, but a welcomed improvement. #a11y #accessibility
