Singapore too. Plus unseasonably torrential bouts of rain. Intense heat + rain is probably helping to drive a persistent dengue outbreak. The Aedes mosquitoes love it, and the virus too. All parts of the cycle are shortened + mozzies more aggressive.

As a friend said, “where do people think they go (when we breathe them in)??” They cross the respiratory-blood barrier and the blood brain barrier. They’re circulating through our systems. ☹️
Why huge #solar farms backed by #batteries are taking over America's energy market: "Goodnight #naturalgas, goodnight #coal, goodnight #nuclear" https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2019/07/giant-batteries-and-cheap-solar-power-are-shoving-fossil-fuels-grid … @Sciencemagazine @RobertFService @sejorg
Wow. This new world is on its way. I wonder what it will all look like, on balance (with effects of emissions + unknowns + tipping pts + all efforts), in 30 years’ time (that’s the 2050 mark), 80 years’ time. Will we win? And who will win?
About #ClimateCrisis anxiety and depression: "It's super painful to be a human being right now at this point in history. We need to translate our concern—our despair, our anger our feelings—into action." https://www.vice.com/amp/en_ca/article/j5w374/climate-despair-is-making-people-give-up-on-life?__twitter_impression=true …
This California gym harnesses workout energy and turns it into electricity
Okay, I know I’ve seen something like this in Black Mirror, but it makes sense. All that work at the gym might as well not be wasted. Could it be combined with batteries, that can also store energy from solar and other renewable sources?
"This more active lifestyle means less obesity, #airpollution and road danger and greater sociability as people meet their neighbours on their way to work." Electric travel is the answer but not cars. #FreeElectricBuses #ebikes #escooters & #cargobikes https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-48875361 …
I think EVs are part of the solution, especially against #airpollution, but I certainly prefer cities that prioritise good, safe, reliable public transport and cycling and pedestrian infrastructure.
We know that planes pollute the air and play a big part in global warming – but some scientists think they can change that https://www.reuters.tv/p/WoRwM1a00y8 via this week's tech playlist via @ReutersTV
Wow. This would take care of at least two concerns simultaneously, if it were to become commercially viable.
The heatwaves reaching Europe are proof that climate change is striking everywhere and it is a serious public health threat. #ClimateAction cannot wait.
Indeed Secretary-General @antonioguterres, the climate crisis is a health crisis. Excessive heat can cause heatstroke, exhaustion, fainting and other health consequences. To protect people’s health we need immediate #ClimateAction.
